Rotary
Although Rotary clubs develop autonomous service programs, all Rotarians worldwide are united in a campaign for the global eradication of polio. In the 1980s, Rotarians raised US$240 million to immunize the children of the world; by 2005, Rotary's centenary year and the target date for the certification of a polio-free world, the PolioPlus program will have contributed US$500 million to this cause. In addition, Rotary has provided an army of volunteers to promote and assist at national immunization days in polio-endemic countries around the world.

Alzheimers Project
On November 8, President Michalis Avraam presented a cheque for €7,000 to the chairman of the Archangelos Michael Rest Home, in Kaimakli, during the annual celebration of the Saint’s day, going towards the costs of the Rotary Alzheimer’s Day Care Project. Also present at the ceremony were the Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Sotiroulla Charalambous, as well as the Mayor of Nicosia, Eleni Mavrou, who had kindly provided the Nicosia Multi-Purpose Centre in Palouriotissa for the fund-raising event on October 17. Designer Anna Nouri presented her winter collection ‘Sue Boucle’ and the event was co-sponsored by Tofarco, the SPE Kaimakli Coop Bank and Prigat.
